JIMMY COOK

227 games (1968 - 1974)

The smart ones knew not to mess with Jimmy Cook. Despite standing at a mere five feet four inches, Kilmarnock FC's speedy, combative winger proved a match for many of Scotland's top defenders.

A fans' favourite of over 200 games, Jimmy regards one match with special fondness: the 1972 Scottish Cup semi final at Hampden Park against Celtic.

Passion and enthusiasm...and that's just in the interview!

Jimmy Cook’s senior career started at Hearts. Having been on the fringes of the first team squad, his decision to move to Ayrshire’s most successful club proved to be an excellent one. Constantly switching wings with his good pal Tommy McLean left defences confused, unsure where the next assist for Ross Mathie or Eddie Morrison was coming from. Jimmy’s abrasive on-field style - so different to the mild-mannered, reflective interviewee - ensured that he was a very popular figure at Rugby Park.

“We’ve got Jimmy, Jimmy Cook on the wing.”
